On October 27, 2026, Bitcoin recovered after falling below 80,000 USDT intraday, while Ether and most major tokens also advanced. The Federal Reserve's rate-setting meeting began that day, renewing attention to capital allocation under high interest rates. Investors debated whether Bitcoin had formed a bottom while weighing AI investment's appeal to new capital. Prices improved, but turnover and performance across tokens remained divided.
On Binance spot markets, using UTC daily candles that closed at 8 a.m. Beijing time on October 28, Bitcoin finished at 80,909.77 USDT, up 0.95% from the previous trading day, and Ether at 2,350.36 USDT, up 1.11%. Bitcoin traded between 79,506 and 81,300 USDT; Ether ranged from 2,297.44 to 2,364.35 USDT. Both closed near their intraday highs, as buying absorbed the earlier selling pressure.
Eight major coins rise as aggregate turnover falls nearly 8%

Of the ten highly liquid spot assets in the fixed sample, eight rose and two fell. XRP, DOGE and LINK led with gains of 1.69%, 1.68% and 1.55%. TRX, SOL and BNB rose 0.61%, 0.40% and 0.28%, while ADA and AVAX fell 0.34% and 0.19%. The rebound covered most of the sample but remained uneven in strength.
Turnover did not recover alongside prices. Binance BTC/USDT spot turnover was 1.062 billion USDT, down 13.71% from the previous day. ETH/USDT turnover rose 8.10% to 482 million USDT. Combined turnover across the ten assets fell 7.96% to 1.935 billion USDT. Ether attracted more trading as it rose, while Bitcoin and the overall sample rebounded on lower turnover. Whether buying can persist remains to be seen.
From the September 28 close to the October 27 close, Bitcoin fell a cumulative 3.10%, while Ether, SOL and XRP declined 12.58%, 14.75% and 11.06%. BNB and TRX held up relatively well, losing 2.49% and 1.22%, while LINK fell 25.04%. A one-day rebound has not changed the relative performance pattern of the past month.
Ether's weakness against Bitcoin is particularly clear. Dividing their USDT closing prices, ETH/BTC fell from 0.03220 on September 28 to 0.02905. Ether's slight outperformance that day produced only a small recovery in the ratio. A change in Bitcoin's relative dominance will require Ether and other application-oriented assets to keep closing the gap.
The market is also reassessing the relationship between industry progress and token demand. CoinDesk reported that Ripple received final approval to establish a U.S. national trust bank. XRP nevertheless weakened early after the news before recovering with the market and closing higher. Analysts at Marex noted that a banking charter does not itself require purchases of XRP. Regulatory progress in custody and payments must translate into token demand through actual use to provide more sustained price support.
Ahead of the Fed decision, high rates and AI compete for capital

Crypto's correlation with equities was inconsistent during the day. CoinDesk reported that Bitcoin was still trading below US$80,000 while South Korea's KOSPI was up 3.1%. Later in the U.S. session, a market review carried by Yahoo Finance recorded Bitcoin recovering alongside gains in the S&P 500 and Nasdaq. The support to risk appetite from stronger technology shares affected crypto differently across trading sessions.
Interest rates remain an important constraint on allocation. CNBC reported that the Fed's two-day meeting began on October 27 with the market assigning nearly a 93% probability to unchanged rates. The U.S. 10-year Treasury yield was approximately 4.995% at the time of the report. Traders were already looking beyond the immediate decision to the possibility of another increase before year-end. Bitcoin generates no interest income, so higher Treasury yields raise its opportunity cost. With expectations for this decision relatively concentrated, post-meeting guidance could have a greater influence on willingness to allocate capital.
Competition from other investment opportunities also attracted attention. In a public post on October 27, investor and All-In podcast host Jason Calacanis argued that AI offered more attractive investment opportunities and that Bitcoin was losing its narrative advantage in attracting new money. His allocation view highlights a real competitive pressure: even as institutional crypto businesses expand, incremental risk capital must still choose among different opportunities.
Galaxy sees accumulation while large traders turn net short

Galaxy's head of research, Alex Thorn, was more optimistic about Bitcoin's medium-term outlook. He argued that Bitcoin may have ended its bear market in June and was now in an accumulation phase, citing a recovery above the 50-week moving average, five consecutive weekly closes above it and reduced speculative positioning.
The report, as relayed by CoinDesk, also said asset managers' net long exposure to CME Bitcoin futures had fallen 57% from the week of its historical peak. Meanwhile, spot Bitcoin ETFs had added approximately 87,000 BTC since the June low. Galaxy interpreted this as evidence that allocation demand persisted even after some short-term trading capital had exited.
Short-term positioning was more cautious. Glassnode disclosed on October 27 that large traders on Hyperliquid had turned net short Bitcoin the previous week. Its original post identified two possibilities: a further price decline or a rally that triggers short covering. These large traders' defensive or outright short positions reflect pressure at the trading level. Galaxy's assessment concerns capital accumulation over a longer horizon, so the two observations address different time frames.
Bitcoin's recovery above 80,000 USDT shows that buyers are willing to absorb supply around that level. Turning a one-day rebound into a sustained recovery will require turnover to improve, Ether to keep gaining relative to Bitcoin, and more major tokens to break their earlier downtrends. More stable rate expectations after the Fed decision would help those developments persist. If capital remains concentrated in a small number of assets, market divisions will be difficult to resolve.
